Our standards

Editorial standards & disclosure

How we approach sources, illustrative imagery, product recommendations and commercial relationships.

Explain the reason. Show the trade-off.

Maison Matière publishes practical guides about how homes work. We aim to distinguish a decorating preference from a measurable constraint and give readers a useful way to test an idea. A recommendation should explain what it solves and where it may not suit the room.

Sources, examples and expertise

Where a guide relies on a technical specification or a quoted rule of thumb, we link to the relevant source when available. A manufacturer’s claim is not the same as an independent product test. Rules of thumb are starting points, not universal requirements. We do not claim professional installation, architectural or engineering credentials for the publication.

Photography, diagrams and AI-assisted visuals

Our articles use a mix of photography, original diagrams and illustrative room imagery, including AI-generated images. A concept image does not document a real renovation or establish that a product performs as shown. We identify illustrative examples in captions or editorial notes. Floor plans are not to scale unless explicitly stated and are not construction documents.

Source and credit questions can be sent through our contact page. Reuse rights depend on the creator and source; publication here is not permission to reuse someone else’s image.

Shopping and affiliate disclosure

Current status, 3 October 2026: Maison Matière has no active affiliate programme or advertising-network integration. The shopping links in our lighting guide are ordinary links, and we do not currently earn commission from them.

If a future article contains affiliate links, we will identify that relationship close to the recommendations. The disclosure will explain that we may receive a commission when a reader purchases through those links. Sponsored placements and provided products will be identified separately. We will not present paid coverage as an unpaid recommendation.

What a recommendation means

Our current product examples are selected from published specifications for a particular design problem, with US shoppers in mind. They are not hands-on reviews. We do not use “tested” to describe a product we have not used. Price, stock, shipping, dimensions and compatibility should be checked with the retailer before purchase.

Corrections and updates

Articles display publication dates and, when changed on a later date, an updated date. If you spot an error, send the article address, the passage concerned and a source where possible. We review corrections and update material errors. Recommendations may change when sources, product information or the article’s scope change.
